We’re very excited for our next adventure here at Music of Oz.  We’re calling it GarOz Band.  This will be extra lessons/classes for guitar and drum players as well as vocalists.  It’s a chance to learn how to play as a band, be in tune, be on time, listen to yourself and others and learn the basics of improv.

These are 6-week sessions on Tuesday Nights from 7:00-8:00pm at our Crown Point Studio.  The cost is $75.

Annual Recitals

July 6, 2016

We have 2 annual recitals each year.  In the spring is our solo recital where our students work diligently to prepare a memorized piece to present to friends, family and fellow students.  In the fall we have our duet recital.  This recital is very fun and allows for students from different teachers and/or instruments to prepare a piece together.

New to Music of Oz: Music Therapy

July 11, 2015

Music of Oz DeMotte is now offering Music Therapy Sessions by our staff music therapist, Katie Misack, MT-BS. Sessions are 30 minutes in length and cost $23 per half hour. Appointments are scheduled on a monthly basis and payment is due at the first session of every month. A minimum of one session per week is recommended.

Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. Music therapy is an established healthcare professional that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals of all ages. Music therapy improves the quality of life for persons who are well and meets the needs of children and adults with delays, disabilities, or illnesses.

Music therapy can help individuals improve their self-image, body awareness and emotional regulation and expression as well as fine and gross motor skills. Music therapy is much more than music, and it is not music lessons. Individuals do not need to have any instrumental-playing abilities to benefit from music therapy. Instruments, props and adaptive devices are used to help individuals increase communication and independence. Music therapy assists individuals with improving their auditory processing as well as reducing maladaptive, or negative, behaviors.

After assessing the strengths and needs of each client, Katie will provide the indicated goals and treatment including music creating, singing , moving, or listening. Through musical involvement in therapeutic context, clients’ abilities are strengthened and transferred to other areas of their lives. Music therapy also provides avenues for communication that can be helpful to those who find it difficult to express themselves in words.

We are also so excited to make this music therapy addition to our studio’s offerings!

Call Music of Oz, 219-987-7161 for an appointment for a free consultation assessment and to set up subsequent appointments.
